Visas are necessary for entry into Angola, and
visa applications must be accompanied by a letter
of invitation from us. There are often considerable
delays before the issue of visas - so apply well
in advance (at least a month). The visa is valid
for 30-days and the date of entry into Angola
must be within 60 days of the date of issue.
The most practical way of getting to the Flamingo
Lodge is to fly into Namibe (Yuri Gagarine) airport
(co-ordinates: FNMO 15°16'S, 12°10'E),
in a private or a chartered light aircraft (we
can assist with charters). The runway is in very
good condition and is in daily use by large jets.
Phone us with an ETA the day before you arrive
so that we can inform the relevant authorities
of your impending arrival, meet and guide you
through immigration and customs, and then take
you to your destination. There are also international
airline flights between Windhoek and Lubango every
Thursday and visitors can be met there and driven
the 250km to Flamingos camp. [click

For those intending to drive, 4 x 4 vehicles are necessary as many of the routes involve driving in sand and over very broken rocky terrain. We can arrange for a guide to meet you at the border to smooth your passage through the border formalities, and also through any check points that you may encounter on the way. For anyone not intending to use the main roads a guide is necessary as some of the tracks are very indistinct and it is easy to get lost. No-one should attempt to drive the coastal route between the Cunene mouth and Tombwa without a guide as it may easily result in the loss of a vehicle.
