Shore Angling

Flamingo Lodge is geared to cater
for shore-anglers who would like to sample
the virtually unexploited stocks of coastal
fish that the area offers. The inshore area
in close proximity to Flamingo Lodge is
a diverse mixture of rock reef and sand,
which provides the ideal habitat for a wide
variety of fish. Record-sized Garric(Leervis)
and Chad(Elf) are caught by spinning or
fly fishing, and those who prefer to use
bait will be well-satisfied with their catches
of Kob(Kabeljou), Rock-Kod, Garric and a
variety of other species. The calm sea and
weather conditions allow for light tackle.
Flamingo Lodge has Tag and Release and research
programes, all fish caught are released
if not required for the table.
Although excellent catches are made within
walking distance of Flamingo Lodge, vehicles
are supplied for fishing excursions further
from the lodge. Fishing tackle is not provided
by Flamingo Lodge so please bring your own
tackle we will assist you in what you need
when booking. Light bass-type and fly-fishing
tackle is NOT provided and should be brought
by anyone wishing to experience the great
sport offered by large fish on this gear.
Boat-fishing, and excursions to the Cunene River mouth are offered at an additional price.

Diving

Water temperatures in the vicinity of the Flamingo
Lodge usually vary between 18 and 24°C
and the visibility usually exceeds 5m. The
reefs are of sandstone and devoid of corals
and large algae. Keen snorkelers will be
impressed at the abundance of large fish
that they will see and spearfishermen will
need to be very selective to be rewarded
by a prize catch. Divers are very welcome
as they ensure a regular supply of oysters,
crayfish and cuttlefish on the table.
No diving or spearfishing equipment is supplied and excursions to the more tropical waters north of Namibe can be organized.
