For self drive visitors traveling in Angola, the main difficulties you will encounter will be with language (if no-one in the group speaks Portuguese) and with the unreliability and lack of detail on available maps. Our guides speak Portuguese and can communicate in English. They have the necessary knowledge to circumvent problems with local officials, know the best routes to take as well as where fuel and other supplies can be obtained. Angolan Adventure Safaris guides are registered and can legally take visitors through the Parque National de Iona and have the authority to utilize designated camping areas.
We can help with tailoring a route to suite your interests and time constraints while touring the area. Arrangements can be made for a guide to be sent (with or without a vehicle) to meet you at the border to help with formalities there, and then accompany you for as long as is necessary.
The use of our guide and/or vehicles by self-contained overland groups will usually be conditional on that group making at least some use of our Foz do Cunene and Flamingo Lodges.
